What? : Modern and contemporary art exhibitions
When? : Summer 2022
How Much? : Museums

Provocative, militant, ecological or flowery; the artistic exhibitions in the Nice region this summer will be rich and varied. An opportunity to (re)discover eight emblematic cultural places for a moment that is both recreational and timeless.

The most discussed / Hockney-Matisse : un paradis retrouvé

As part of the Biennale des Arts Nice the Matisse Museum in Nice presents an unprecedented dialogue between David Hockney and Henri Matisse. The exhibition opens with a recent series called Fresh Flowers – paintings recently made on an Ipad in Normandy – the artist of which has reserved the first for us at the Matisse Museum. Curator Claudine Grammont has imagined a tour of the museum’s collections guided by the work of David Hockney. Resonances are created between the worlds of the two artists, in particular the sensitive continuity between the space of the studio and its objects, and also between the landscapes of Nice, Tahiti or Los Angeles. Thus the Côte d’Azur joins California through the themes of the swimming pool, the window and the lush garden.

The most nature / Fleurs!

This exhibition by artist Nick Knight brings together an exceptional selection of works from the Roses from my Garden series, which began seven years ago. The artist’s roses are imbued with an utterly melancholy beauty, reminiscent of Dutch and Flemish still lifes of the 17th and 18th centuries. For each image Nick Knight picks roses from his garden, then photographs them using his iPhone and retouches them. A resolutely intimate exhibition.

When? From 11th June 2022 to 25th September 2022.

The most pop / Ville Songe

This summer Flora Moscovici and her abstract painting are taking over the roof terrace of MAMAC. Her colourful work – Ville Songe – comes into dialogue with the urban landscape of Nice. Scalable, the vitaminized wall sections of the young visual artist are subject to the variations of the sky and the sun. A moving and resolutely poetic creation.

Where? MAMAC, Place Yves Klein, 06000 Nice.
